Five  reasons why a links directory is better than a single links page

If you have decided to keep all your reciprocal links on a single page, think again.

1) A categorized directory structure will make it easier for your visitors to find relevant links.

2) A tightly focused page of links, with a relevant Page Title and Headings, will increase the visibility of that page in the search engines and bring traffic to your site.

3) Adding more pages to your website will increase its overall Page Rank. (Every page in your links directory should have links to the most important pages on your site.)

4) Search engines are striving to add some form of Topic Sensitive Page Rank to their algorithms, so links partners will be seeking out links pages that are tightly focused on one topic.

5) By minimizing the number of external links on a page, both you and your link partners get a better share of the Page Rank available from that page. Compare these two scenarios:

  • A links page that has 10 links back to your site, and 90 links to other websites, will give each of your link partners 1% of the available Page Rank, and your own site gets 10%.

  • A links page that has 10 links back to your site, and 10 links to other websites, will give each of your link partners 5% of the available Page Rank, and your own site gets 50%.

Small links pages are a win-win situation!

So why not think about categorizing your links page, keeping just a small number of external links on each page. As a page grows, sub-divide it into narrower niches.
