Material:

Maple, probably Red Maple. This tree limb had grown in a U-shape, which accounts for the bark inclusion that reaches into the center of the bowl. There is also considerable figure to the grain in this area due to the stress placed on the wood as it grew. Three sides of the rim are the natural bark edge. The remaining edge is straight from the chainsaw when the tree was cut. There are also areas of pith and spalting. 

This is a very unique piece.

Finish:

Danish oil, polished to a sheen.
